NC Tournament: Hearts of Oak want to win the trophy – Kim Grant
Accra Hearts of Oak’s head coach, Kim Grant, has set his sights on winning the Normalisation Committee Special competition which kicks off this weekend.
The Phobians face Dreams FC in their opening game at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
It’s the first time competitive football will be played in the country, after Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ documentary, Number 12, resulted in the halt of football activities since June 2018.
“Just like all the other coaches, we’re in it to win it. We didn’t come in just to participate. And at the end of it, there’s the CAF Competitions,” Grant said at a pre-match press conference at the club’s secretariat.
Grant, who took charge at the beginning of December 2018, is, however, urging the supporters to be patient with his relatively young squad.
“But you have to remember, I’ve only been here 3 months, I’ve brought in a lot of young players who have never been on this stage before. So on that side of things, I plead with the supporters to be patient with them and give them their 100 percent support even if things don’t go well for them.
“It’s vital that every supporter understands the direction this club is going and get behind the team,” he said.
The winner of tier one of the NC Special Competition will represent the country in the CAF Champions League while the winner of tier 2 gets to play in the CAF Confederation Cup.
